Team Building Session with the Gauteng GirlEng Executive Team
By Tshidzani Tshivhase, Marketing & Media Coordinator, GirlEng Executive Team: Gauteng
The 22nd of February 2014 marked the day in which the Gauteng GirlEng Executive Team commenced their year with a team building exercise, held at the Library Lawns at the University of the Witwatersrand, East Campus. The session commenced with an icebreaker whereby a member of the team would tell two truths and one lie about themselves and the rest of the team would have to guess the lie. This proved to be an effective and fun way of learning new and interesting facts about each other as well as encouraging the team members to be more comfortable in each other’s presence.
Following the icebreaker our Head of Executive, Matebogo Mangaba, led the session by asking each member what their expectations were with regards to being in the Executive Team and the role they would play within the organisation. From the discussion it was found that individuals in the team were unanimous about their expectations: the platform that we have been afforded is an opportunity for each and every one of us to have a positive impact on the lives of the female high school learners we reach out to. Furthermore, it is an opportunity for us to develop ourselves into better citizens of society who will be future role models and who will be able to effect change for the good. It was agreed that passion, commitment and effective time management were the key areas which would greatly determine the level of success which we attain in terms of the goals that we have for this year.
The session rounded off with a motivational leadership self-test which was very insightful. This year will be filled with highs and lows but the Gauteng GirlEng Executive Team is geared and fired up to tackle each challenge with enthusiasm and a positive attitude!
